DESCRIPTION:The first venue for this years Masters weekend away is Oake Manor Golf Club.  Located in some of Somerset’s most beautiful countryside nestling between the Quantock\, Brendon and Blackdown hills\, yet only a few minutes’ drive from junction 26 of the M5 – travel time from Adderbury is approximately 2hrs 35min.   \nA superb 6149 yard golf course with stunning rural views and featuring water hazards on 10 of the 18 holes awaits.  Club facilities include a covered driving range\, short game practice area and putting green.  \nFirst tee is 11:40am.  There are coffee and bacon rolls on arrival\, so suggest aiming to arrive around 10:30am.

DESCRIPTION:Penbruce Trophy\nThe second day of the AGS weekend sees the society play for the Penbruce Trophy at Ham Manor Golf Club. \nWhat the club says: The course dates back to 1936 when Henry Cotton\, Jimmy Adams\, R.A.Whitcombe and Alfred Padgham played a superb exhibition match to mark the official opening. When the golf course designers moved on to the site in 1936 they found a wealth of natural features despite the basic flatness of the area. There are two or three small but significant changes in level and some marvelous sweeping contours in the terrain as it moves from open countryside through trees\, bushes and shrubs. Although the setting and the entire nature of the course is parkland\, there is something of a links quality about the turf\, no doubt stemming from close contact with the sea that this stretch of country enjoyed for centuries. \nGolfshake club review \nDefending Champion: Kevin Hardy

SUMMARY:AGS Masters Weekend Away: Goodwood Golf Club
DESCRIPTION:2017 sees the annual AGS Masters weekend away take us to down to Bognor Regis on the south coast. As usual\, starting on a Thursday there are three golfing days. The first event will take place at Goodwood Park\, following which we’ll check-in at our B&B accommodation for three nights at The Premier Inn\, Bognor Regis. \nThe cost for the weekend\, including prize fund is £285.  £150 deposit is due by end of December 2016.  Balance of £135 is due by end of February 2017. \nWhat the club says: The Goodwood Park layout was designed in 1987 by renowned golf architect Donald Steele and lies within the parkland surrounding Goodwood House. Indeed the 6\,650 par 72 course has been carefully designed to blend in with the splendid surroundings of the Estate. \nThe Downs Course was laid out in 1914 by legendary golf architect\, designer of Gleneagles and Carnoustie and five times winner of the Masters Championship\, James Braid\, The Downs Course features tricky doglegs and long sweeping greens which are both a treat and a challenge to true golf fans. The Downs was cleverly renovated in 2006 to retain the essential character of Braid’s concept while providing a challenge for the modern game for both amateurs and professionals alike. \nGolfshake club review \n

DESCRIPTION:Fixture 6 of 9 \nAs most of you know\, Members Day is where we pull out all the stops for a great day out at a top golf club and this year is no different.  AGS members will be treated to 27 holes at the stunning Henley Golf Club.  (It’s worth noting that this fixture is costing the society £79 per person\, however as per usual the cost is subsidised by the society – so the cost for this Members only event is just £55 per person). \nThe format for the day will be to arrive at 8am for coffee and bacon rolls followed by a 9 hole team event starting at 9am.   Following lunch (served at 12:30pm)  we’ll head out for 18 holes single stableford at 1:30pm. \nDress code: Smart casual wear is acceptable in the Lounge and Dining Rooms.  Track suits\, T-shirts and training shoes however\, are not acceptable. \nWhat the club says: This picturesque course is situated on the hillside overlooking the historic town of Henley-in-Arden and provides a fair test to all handicappers. The local scenery has been encapsulated beautifully to create a track that uses undulating fairways\, fast greens and water features to challenge golfers. DESCRIPTION:Our second fixture of 2016 is at the stunning medieval Maxstone Castle. Ian Waters is our defending champion of the Credit Classic. First tee time is 1:30pm. As usual there will be tea/coffee and bacon rolls on arrival\, so aim to get there around 12:30pm. \nWhat the club says: Set in just over 100 acres of beautiful rolling Warwickshire countryside to the east of Birmingham\, the course provides an excellent test of golf and is the chosen venue for regular representative matches at County and Midland level. The course is set in the extensive grounds of the magnificent medieval moated Maxstoke Castle. The par 71 course is 6\,442 yards in length and is blessed with many mature trees. Several holes require the ability to draw or fade the ball around some very large oaks and horse chestnuts. SUMMARY:Coach & Horses Shield
DESCRIPTION:The first outing of the year sees the society visit Drayton Park Golf Club where Tom McKiver will be defending the Coach & Horses Shield. The plan is to arrive around 10:30am (1hr before first tee time – 11:30am) to enjoy a full English breakfast.  Cost for the day out is £35 to members and £40 for guests \nLocated between Abingdon and Didcot\, allow around 45 to 50 minutes drive from Adderbury (alternatively click on the location links to plan your own journey or better still hook a ride with a fellow member!).  The draw for the order of play (in 3 or 4 ball groupings) will be drawn during breakfast allowing plenty of time for a warm up (or extra cup of coffee!!).  There is also a chance to enter the 2’s competition and sweep. \nIn addition to the golf at Drayton Park\, there will also be an evening buffet\, the pairs draw and Karaoke at the Coach & Horses.  The cost for the buffet is £5 per person.  If you plan on playing golf and eating at the Coach & Horses\, the total cost of the day will be £40 or (£45 for guests). \nWhat the club says: We have a challenging course offering varied holes with tree lined fairways and several lakes rewarding the golfer who thinks about each shot. Tighter fairways with short rough favour accurate placement – there are five dogleg par 4’s\, four challenging par 5’s and six par 3 holes.
