Hello fellow Members! As your incoming Captain for 2023, I have the honour of hosting the annual Masters’ Golf Tour. I have big shoes to fill following Harry’s amazing tour to Canterbury earlier this year. Congratulations and thanks once again to Harry for a thoroughly enjoyable time away in the Garden of England.
Having scoured the lands, I’ve hopefully come up with something that will have a good mixture of great golf and a good couple of nights out. To that end, I’ve selected Bristol as our destination. It combines a relatively short drive from Adderbury, with lively city nightlife, and some fantastic golf courses to play, whilst keeping costs reasonable.
As covered in the draft itinerary below, the plan on the first day is to head down to Clevedon Golf Club. Clevedon celebrated its 130th-anniversary last year and has earned itself a reputation as the course to play in Somerset – a suitable venue for day 1 and a place to play the first of 3 team events we’ll have on the Tour.
Following the golf, we’ll head into Bristol and check into our 4-star Clayton Hotel. The Hotel is located in the old city in the walls of St. Johns and is ideally situated for our evenings out.
In a change to tradition, we’ll be playing for the AGS Masters Trophy on the 2nd day (Friday). The thinking here is we’ll all have a bit more energy playing earlier in the tour, plus it’s the only way we are guaranteed of playing the stunning coastal links Championship Course at Burnham and Berrow – the number one ranked course in Somerset. As a bonus, we get to 9 holes on their Channel Course too – our second team event.
We’ll be back in Bristol for a Friday night out before ending our tour at the Players Golf Club on Saturday. In the morning we’ll play our third and final team event on the 9-hole par 3 Watergarden Course. The short course consists of 9 Par 3’s and is likened by many to the 9-hole course at Augusta National.
Following lunch, we’ll play for the Penbruce Trophy on the main Codrington Course – a cracker of a course used as a qualifying venue for the DP World Golf Tour. We’ll finish with a meal and prize ceremony before heading back home, maybe stopping for a drink or two on the way.
As ever, places are limited and there is a time window for us to successfully secure the hotel and golf venues. Please let me know ASAP if you’d like to attend.

Update 19th November:
- We have now filled all 20 places for the tour!
- We are all booked in and deposits paid for all venues.
- I have created a Google map, available here, with all golf, hotel, and parking locations (toggle layer on the left-hand side of the map to see driving routes)
- I’m still hopeful that we can hire and take the Minibus, however, parking in Bristol City centre is likely to be tricky as many places have height restrictions etc. The good news is that we do have discounted parking at the nearest NCP on Nelson Street (as shown in the map, linked above, 3min walk from the hotel, height limit 1.8m / 6ft).
- The remaining balances for the Tour will be due by 17th March 2023 – St Patrick’s Day!
- As ever, feel free to ping me with any questions via WhatsApp.
